I.
How to begin

Ease In, Don't Rush

  • Start with one night a week. Increase by a day each week.
  • Patch test first, and watch how your skin responds over 48 hours.
  • Very sensitive skin should buffer with a hydrating essence and moisturiser.
  • Skip other actives and heavy botanical serums during this adjustment window.

Even if you're used to strong retinoids, take the first two weeks slowly.

II.
Before your first use

The Skin Fast

  • If you've been using heavy actives, pause them all for a few days before you begin.
  • This lets your skin reset, so Ocean of Milk can work as intended from the start.

A skin fast simply means a short break from every active ingredient: retinoids, acids and strong botanicals alike.

III. Once you're settled in

Continued Use

Sensitive skin never needs to increase frequency; a couple of nights a week is enough. Listen to your skin's signals and adjust. This is a one-and-done formula: used regularly, you may not need other actives alongside it.

IV. If your skin purges

Troubleshooting

Pause the serum and apply a spot cream on breakouts. We advise against stripping spot creams containing salicylic acid.

V. Working with your routine

Other Treatments

Getting a dermatological treatment? Pause Ocean of Milk for a few days before and after. Check with your dermatologist on the exact number of days you need.

VI. The one non-negotiable

Sunscreen, Every Single Day

Retinoids increase your skin's sensitivity to the sun. Skipping sunscreen while using actives is one of the most common causes of new or worsened pigmentation.

VII. Please read before purchasing

Who This Is Not For

Pregnant and lactating women must not use Ocean of Milk. Retinoids are not advised during this time.

If you have severe rosacea, severe cystic or nodular acne, or a history of melasma, please check with your dermatologist before investing in us.
